The life and times...

I read about Charles Babbage way back in 7th grade, when I first laid hands on a computer and was trying to find out all I could about these cool things. I was quite familiar with his place in history. I had read descriptions of the difference engines he designed and almost built, but I never expected to see a real one. I was quite surprised to find out that a real difference engine had been built and was actually sitting within 10 minutes walk of my office. As a fan of all computer hardware, this was way cool!
The first time I saw the Difference Engine No.2 I wished I had my camera with me to capture this incredible piece of engineering. So I eventually went back to see it again a couple of weeks later with camera in hand.
