Tip Calculator

Summary

TipCalc runs on Java enabled mobile phones.  It calculates the tip due for a meal, and breaks down the per person cost, given equal portions for all participants.  This software is free, distributed under the terms of the GNU public license.  The source code also provides a simple but complete example of a Java MIDP application.

Note: Currently, tip is set at 15%.  It should be a small change to add a new screen to allow modification of the tip percentage.

Platform

TipCalc was developed on a Nokia platform, but should run on any J2ME phone that supports CLDC 1.0 and MIDP 1.0 (basic Java phone functionality).

Distribution license

TipCalc is Copyright 2004 Harshy Wanigasekara, and is distributed under the terms of the Gnu Public License. Source code is included with the download.

Links

Version 1.0 Zipfile with source and binaries.  I used Nokia's PC Suite v 6.2.18 to download the jad and jar files via IR link to my Nokia phone.  You need something similar to download the software to your own phone.

If your mobile phone can surf the web and directly download files, the jad file for TipCalc is here and the jar file is here.
